Elon Musk the co-founder and chief executive officer of Tesla Motors has said that electric car manufacturing company wants to open a Gigafactory and design and research centre near the German capital city of Berlin.
This would be the fourth factory for Tesla after its and its first battery plant factory which is situated in Reno, Nevada. Another factory in Buffalo near New York makes all the charging equipment and power electronic circuits where Tesla plans to build Solar rooftop tiles one day. Only a few weeks ago Elon Musk had unveiled its plans to open a Gigafactory in Shanghai, China.
The reasons for opening a factory in Berlin as told by Elon Musk were everyone knows about German engineering which is world-class. And the reason for opening a design and centre was also because German design is also famous around the world. He further said that the new factor would be opened near the new airport in Berlin region.
Musk has wanted to build a factory in Europe for many years. When Tesla acquired a German automation design and manufacturing firm Grohmann Engineering, its CEO suggested that if Musk wants to open a factory in Europe can consider opening it in Germany. He even reiterated his feelings to Musk last year as well.
Tesla could not do much in the third quarter due to the fall in the overall economic slowdown and a general slowdown for the car market in its home country. But in European countries, the sales of Tesla cars have been in demand and the sales have been rising in the first three quarters of 2019.
Building a factory in Europe would help Tesla to reduce its operation cost of exporting cars to the European countries and also avoid any extra tariffs
